What’s With All the Peach?

As I pondered on the Pantone color of the year for 2024, I was reminded of a vibrant hue that goes beyond the spectrum of shades – it's the warm embrace of Ms Peaches, the dining hall employee at VCU's dining hall. Ms Peaches, a ray of sunshine in my college routine, bestowed upon me the endearing nickname "Ladybug." She became more than just a friendly face serving meals; she was like having a grandma away from home, ensuring I stayed on track while delighting my taste buds with her delicious creations.

In my last week of college, I returned to the dining hall for the first time since my freshman year, a reunion delayed by the challenges of Covid. A familiar voice called out, “My Ladybug,” and there she was – Ms. Peaches, with her infectious smile and genuine warmth. It was as if time stood still, and the years melted away as we shared stories and laughter.

Ms Peaches, ever the caring soul, was thrilled to learn about my fast-approaching graduation despite the hurdles I faced during my four years, including the loss of my brother. Her enthusiasm and genuine interest made that moment extra special, a reminder of the unexpected friendships that blossom in the corners of our daily lives.

As I prepared to enter a new chapter, Ms. Peaches left me with wisdom: "Stay peach’d up, and when life gives you lemons, make lemonade and add peaches!" It encapsulates her positive outlook, a philosophy that became a guiding light during both the sweet and sour moments of my college journey.

Ms Peaches, with her nurturing spirit, is more than a dining hall employee – she is the fuzzy feeling people need on a bad day, and she became that source of comfort during some of my toughest times. She taught me the power of spreading warmth and kindness in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming.

So here's to Ms Peaches, the living embodiment of the Pantone color of the year, infusing joy and vibrancy into our daily lives. May we all strive to be the fuzzy feeling someone needs on a challenging day, just as Ms Peaches was for me. Stay peach’d up, and remember, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade and add peaches!
